Over The Air Provisioning

One of the layer 3 discovery algorythm is OTAP.

To enable/disable OTAP :
network otap-mode disable
network otap-mode enable

If an AP is registered to a WLC, it can advertise the WLC IP address to the LAP’s with the use of neighbour messages over the AIR.

Recommendation is that you only enable OTAP during AP provisioning. After this disable OTAP.
Only when an AP had the LWAPP image and NOT the LWAPP recovery image OTAP is working.

If you have a wireless sniffer and OTAP is enabled, you can see the WLC IP address in the beacons that is send by the APs.
In the broadcastpacket, have a look at the 48th byte. Here you have the hex address of the WLC. Decode this to decimal and you’ve got the number.
