DHCP Scope on the Router

First we define the DHCP scope for all the clients.

The range will be from 101 – 150 for the clients.

ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.5.1 192.168.5.101

ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.5.150 192.168.5.254

ip dhcp pool WIFI

network 192.168.5.0 255.255.255.0

default-router 192.168.5.1

option 43 ascii 192.168.11.15
option 43 hex f104c0a80564
option 150 ip 192.168.11.1

lease 8 0

Option 150 is the TFTP server for the ipphones.

Option 43 is the WLC for this VLAN.
This option can only be in HEX !
option 43 hex f1 xx 11 22 33 44
f1 is default.
xx is the number of bytes you’re going to send. For one controller its 04 bytes. Two controllers is 08 bytes.
Then you put the ip address of the controller in hex.

Now every client gets the option 43.
You can define option 60 so that only certain AP’s get the option 43 :
option 60 ascii “Cisco AP c1240”
It’s always starting with Cisco AP c followed by the model

It’s also possible to forward the broadcast to the controller :
LWAPP is using broadcast with udp 12223.

Router(config)#interface Fastethernet 0/1
Router(config-if)#ip helper-address 192.168.5.100
!— IP address of the WLC
Router(config-if)#exit
Router(config)ip forward-protocol udp 12223
